Honoring the Equinox - Gratitude, forgiveness & balance

by Caroline Stewart

The Autumnal Equinox is upon us.  You can feel it arriving with the crisp September air, settling of emotions, and return to routine.  As it is with all changes in the natural world, we can choose to honor or resist.

We are inextricably connected with the world that we live in.  In order to flow with transition, we must respond to the changes with grace.

Here are 3 essential ways to transition with the changing season:

1. Gratitude

As the fruits of our labours are harvested, it is time to give thanks for all that is produced and shared in our lives.  Perhaps put on a harvest meal, or write a gratitude list daily for the next 7 days.

2. Forgiveness

During times of transition, we must let go of the old and the things that weigh us down.  To start, look at how you judge yourself.  Forgive yourself for this judgment and release this need to be better or different than you are.  Remember, you are perfect.  Everything that you are and that you do is leading you towards lasting happiness.

3. Balance

When we are in the process of change, we often hold onto the past while bringing in the new.  This can leave us feeling overwhelmed as there is not enough space for both.  The key is to embrace the NOW.  Focus on the day-to-day and listen to the needs of your body and mind.  Self-care is of the utmost importance.  Avoid saying yes to things that will create more overwhelm.
